Vint Cerf Steps Down as Chairman of ICANN

who co-invented TCP/IP with Bob Kahn has step down from an unpaid position as Chairman of Internet Corporation For Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN). He is replaced by .

We will definitely miss Vint. He has been able to fend off various controversies during his term. One of the main ones is the of the Internet by ICANN. Luckily the United States has not lost this over-site. Part of the controversy has to do with why the United States continues to maintain the over-site of the master names list for the Internet. The group should be more international.

Another one is the domain .XXX. Initially it was supported, but support was at the last minute by ICANN.

Some other complaints include that ICANN is slow, bureaucratic, and arbitrary.

Vint will devote more time to his duties as a senior executive at Google Inc.

will have big shoes to fill. With the tables already set. He has his work cut out for him. The good news is he is from New Zealand, that provides some more of an international presences.

Some other things Dengate Thrush will be faced with is more internationalization of domains, and the inclusion of other languages for domains.

Let us welcome Mr. Dengate Thrush. We wish Mr. Cerf good luck in his future endeavors.

Inventors of TCP/IP

Winners of Medal of Freedom is the underlying technology that drives the Internet. Without TCP/IP we would not have what we know as the World Wide Web. The web has made billions of dollars for people.

We have to thank for funding the , and the inventors of TCP/IP. This protocol was initially used to drive the or what we know as the Internet today.

The two inventors are , and . Vint Cerf is currently a at Google. Bob Kahn is the CEO of .

What has these two men accomplished? They have changed the world as we know it. With the Internet, we have brought people from the far corners of the world closer together. They have helped people become wealthy beyond their wildest dreams. For example, Steve Case of AOL, Jerry Yang and David Filo of Yahoo, Jeff Bezos of Amazon, and of course Larry Page and Sergey Brin of Google. These are just the few examples of people who have benefited tremendously from the Web.

There are countless families that stay connected when they are physically separated, such as a husband or wife serving in the military. They have the luxury of talking and seeing their family over the web. Only a few years ago this video over IP technology was not available.

We need to award Vint Cerf, and Bob Kahn Life time achievement awards for their contributions to the improvement of mankind.

Welcome To Google?Larry Page and are entrepreneurs of a new breed. This breed is known as the . They are currently Number 5 and Number 6 on the Forbes 400 list. They are the youngest ever, and the fastest ever to crack the top 10 in the Forbes 400 list.

It’s fine and dandy that they are filthy rich billionaires. They have much influence and power, especially on the Internet. But what is their legacy. Will it be a legacy where the Internet is ruined? Or Will it be a legacy where the Internet is better for it? So, is ?
The Web According to Google
Now is the time for them to make that choice. Do they want to be known as people who made this world a worst place, or do they want to be known as the people who make a difference, and contributed to the world to make it a better place.

Some Microsoft’s practices, even to this day is monopolistic, and attempts to stifle competition. That’s why there were anti-trust suits. Now that’s Microsoft strategy in achieving dominance. How is Google going to achieve dominance on the World Wide Web? They are going to do so at a cost of privacy. In fact, there are accounts out there that say that online. They want to monitor you, know your behavior, and know exactly what you do online. In fact they want to be all knowing, and all seeing. That’s how Google is going to achieve dominance, and to a certain extent a monopoly. The latest bid to achieve that goal is the . Here are .

Not sure if you remember in the early years of Microsoft, Bill Gates was known as a greedy SOB. Now, if you look at him, he is one of the greatest philanthropists who donates thru the . He give more to charity than anyone else, that’s because he is after all the richest man in the world.

Will Sergey and Larry follow in Bill’s footsteps? I am glad they are thinking about charity. Check out . The questions is what kinds of contributions have they made? The foundation donates to worthy causes to global change, global development, and public health, and of course to Hurricane Katrina and Rita victims.
